25 Australian government departments and agencies have banned TikTok from work-issued devices, according to an audit led by Liberal senator James Paterson.
12 other departments have issued a partial ban.
Paterson chairs the Senate Select Committee on Foreign Interference Through Social Media, which calls for a clear and consistent ban on the app across all departments and agencies.
Canada and the EU have already banned all government staff from using TikTok.
In December, the US Senate passed legislation banning the app from all US government devices.
TikTok has submitted a statement to the Senate committee, saying that its Chinese heritage should not be a factor in any decision on the app’s use.
